Advice for men on the symptoms that are easiest to leave unsaid
This section covers the symptoms that involve the bladder, the bowel, the prostate and the pelvic floor. A slow or stop-start stream, or dribbling after urinating. Getting up in the night. Leaking, or an urgency that is hard to put off. Constipation, bowel urgency or leakage. Pelvic pain. Symptoms that follow prostate surgery, and bladder and bowel changes alongside a neurological condition. It is a broad list, and that is deliberate: these are the things men look for when they first start reading about this.
They are also the things men tend not to say out loud. When something stays private, there is little to measure it against. A symptom nobody talks about can quietly start to feel like a strange one. Quiet is not the same as rare, and reading up on something is a reasonable place to start.
The articles in this section go into these areas in more detail - what the symptoms tend to look like day to day, what an assessment can tell you, and what physiotherapy can offer. They are written to be read before you have decided to do anything about it, and there is no order you are meant to take them in.
If you would rather know what treatment itself involves, that is set out on our men's health physiotherapy page.
