If you have private medical insurance, you may already be covered for physiotherapy treatment. At the White House Clinic, we work with all major UK insurance providers, making it straightforward to access expert care without paying the full cost yourself.

Does private health insurance cover physiotherapy?

Most private health insurance policies include physiotherapy as part of their outpatient or musculoskeletal (MSK) cover. This typically applies to:

  • Sports injuries
  • Back and neck pain
  • Joint and muscle problems
  • Post-operative rehabilitation
  • Ongoing or chronic conditions affecting movement

The level of cover depends on your policy, but many insurers will fund a course of physiotherapy treatment when clinically appropriate.

How to use your insurance for physio

Using your insurance is usually a simple process:

  1. Check your policy
Confirm physiotherapy is included and whether you need a GP or consultant referral.
  2. Get authorisation
Contact your insurer to obtain a pre-authorisation code. They’ll confirm how many sessions are approved.
  3. Book your appointment
Choose your nearest White House Clinic location and book with one of our physiotherapists.
  4. Provide your details
Bring your authorisation code and insurance information to your first appointment.

In most cases, we can invoice your insurer directly, so you won’t need to pay upfront (excluding any excess on your policy).

Which insurance providers do we work with?

The White House Clinic is recognised by all major UK insurers, including:

  • Bupa
  • AXA Health
  • Aviva
  • Vitality
  • WPA
  • Healix
  • Cigna

If your provider isn’t listed, our reception team can confirm if we can work with them.

Do you need a GP referral?

This depends on your insurer:

  • Some providers allow direct access, so you can book physiotherapy without seeing a GP first.
  • Others require a GP or consultant referral before approving treatment.

If you’re unsure, contact your insurer or speak to our team - we can guide you.

Why use your insurance for physiotherapy?

Using your private medical insurance gives you:

  • Faster access to treatment without long waiting times
  • Specialist assessment and rehabilitation
  • A structured recovery plan tailored to your goals
  • Ongoing support from diagnosis through to recovery
