Ready to continue your fitness journey, or are you just getting started? Looking to take up a new sport or bring your skills to a local team? It doesn’t matter if you have a goal in mind or are just looking to get moving, you’ll find some amazing places to be active in Chesterfield, whatever your fitness level.

Outdoor activities

If you love scenic walks and cycle paths then Holmebrook Valley Country Park is the place for you. Walk, run or play sport in Queen’s Park, hit some golf balls at Tapton Park Golf Club, or explore the trails at Grassmoor Country Park. The market town of Chesterfield has so many outdoor activities to choose from – and the nearby Peak District National Park offers you some of the country’s finest rock climbing, mountain biking and trail running routes.

Sports facilities

Aside from sports centres such as Queen’s Park and Spireites Sports and Health Club, there are also other excellent sports facilities in the area. The 10.5 metre climbing wall at the Healthy Living Centre is the place to go if you are looking to reach new heights, head to the BMX club to learn some thrill seeking tricks, or take a trip to Chesterfield Petanque Club for a competitive game of boules with a welcoming group.

Healthy eats

Chesterfield is home to hundreds of restaurants, from places to grab a light lunch to restaurants for something special and even a few chic brunch spots. Try Qoozies for a healthy post-training take away. Vegged is the place for Mexican-inspired plant-based bowls and salads. If you are looking for a contemporary dining experience try Déjà vu for afternoon tea, champagne lunches and more.

Our physio clients will tell you the importance of a great gym to keep up their regimen. Whether you are looking for a gym with a community vibe such as Chester Street Gym or a big chain where you can do your workout and leave, Chesterfield will have one for you. With mainstream chains and boutique studios to choose from, your goals are well within reach, whatever your budget.

Where to watch sport

Of course, you’ll be able to catch a game of Sunday league football down the local park, but you could also cheer on Chesterfield Football Club at their grounds in the town. You’ll also find boules clubs, bowling teams, tennis matches, and rugby all happening in the local area – keep your eye out for posters and support your local teams.

Equipment hire

Looking to try out cycling or use an e-bike? No need to invest in buying your own as J E James has you covered with hire e-bikes and bikes in Chesterfield. Hire a bike and head over to Five Pits Trail, Chesterfields Greenways, the Canal, or Phoenix Greenways to test out the trails.

For active events, each week the local running club hosts a gentle 5k at the Cricket Pavilion, ideal for those starting out or returning from injury. There is also the yearly Redbrik Foundation 10k starting in Queens Park, a run that takes you through the town's landmarks. Join in or cheer on your neighbours!
