Mrs Tammy Peat provides a specialist service for lymphoedaema massage. She uses Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is what is called a “skin technique” .
It is an advanced therapy in which the MLD therapist uses specialised, infinitely light, rhythmic pumping techniques on the skin in order encourage lymph to move in the direction in which the skin is being stretched.
This stimulates the lymphatic vessels which carry substances vital to the defence of the body and removes waste products.
Swelling impedes the function of muscles, soft tissues and joints and can directly restrict function and mobility. This form of treatment can reduce the effects of chronic swelling and help provide a better quality of life.
The treatment is both pain reducing and extremely soporific with visible and tangible results appearing often during the treatment.
Compression either via bandaging or compression garments is usually recommended or indeed Kinesiotaping to encourage more drainage post treatment, with the therapist advising and teaching both Simple Lymph Techniques ,gentle exercise , breathing and advise on oedema reduction maintenance.
